Heartland began with the passion to live life in small group relationships, knowing others and being known. When we connect into church community, we give ourselves the best opportunity to grow and be shaped by others on a journey toward God. It is in a small group community where we learn, serve, pursue God, and develop lifelong friendships like no other place in this world.
If you are new to church and to God or have been around a while, small groups are for everyone no matter where you are in your spiritual journey. Everyone has a place to belong.
Whether you are on your own or have a spouse, are a student, a growing family, facing an empty nest, or well into enjoying retirement, we have a range of small groups that gather around various life stages. Groups generally meet in homes and have 8-12 people who attend weekly or every other week.
At Heartland, we offer two main types of groups: Life Groups and Connex Groups. We invite you to investigate which small group best fits you or your family at this stage of life.
If you have any questions please let us know. We would love to help you Connect in Community!
Life Groups are the Heart of Heartland! In these long-term groups, deep and meaningful relationships are formed as people learn, laugh, play and pray together. Groups meet on various days of the week at locations in and around Strathcona County and cover topics that are relevant to the group. They represent every age and stage of life and meet as mixed adults/couples, or as men-only or women-only groups.
Each Life Group has a unique feel and personality. Following Christ through the seasons of life, Life Groups live out what it means to be the church. Our hope is that you are able to find a Life Group that becomes your church family.
If you have any questions, please contact the church office at 780-467-7005 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Connex Groups are for those who are new to Small Groups or have other commitments that keep them from joining a Life Group. Connex Groups allow you to explore topics on days of the week that work for you, usually over a 6- to 12-week term.
Connex groups are offered for both Fall and Winter Semesters. The Fall Semester begins around the end of September while the Winter Semester starts around the end of January. Depending on the number of registrations, Connex Groups can vary in size from one group of a few people to a large group made up of several smaller table groups. Groups are on a "first come" registration basis unless they are designated as a drop-in group.

God has done significant work in Barry's life. He passionately loves the Lord and enthusiastically enjoys serving Him. After many years with Youth For Christ then church planting in Edmonton, Barry headed into the construction industry. He and his family have attended Heartland since the very first service at Festival Place. In 2006, he was welcomed onto the Heartland Staff and truly enjoys being a part of the work God is doing here. Barry has been married to his wife Lori-Anne since 1993 and they have five children. Barry enjoys construction projects, playing games, and sports of most kinds - although his favourite by far is football.
