Heartland is more than a gathering place for weekend services. In fact, it was designed to be a "two-wing" church - with a Large Group wing (weekend services and other church-wide events) and a Small Group wing (our network of small groups).
We believe that Becoming Like Jesus, one of Heartland's five values, happens best in the context of another Heartland value, Connecting In Community. That's why small groups are so important to us!
None of us have been designed to do life alone; we all need the encouragement of others speaking into our lives. So whether you are just checking out God and what it means to follow Jesus Christ or you have been walking with him for many years, we invite you to connect into community by joining a small group.
We have a variety of small groups for individuals, couples and families throughout life's stages, from as early as grade 5/6 all the way through our 55+ groups. Life is better together!
Connex Groups are for those who are new to Small Groups or have other commitments that keep them from joining a Life Group. Connex Groups allow you to explore topics on days of the week that work for you, usually over a 6- to 12-week term. Depending on the number of registrations, Connex Groups can vary in size from one group of a few people to a large group made up of several smaller table groups. Groups are on a "first come" registration basis unless they are designated as a drop-in group. Let us help you find a Connex Group that is right for you - Mixed Adults, Men, Women, Adults 55+, Single Adults, Young Adults or Youth. If you have any questions, contact the church office at 780-467-7005 or email@example.com.
Pastor of Small Groups - Team Lead
God has done a significant work in Barry's life. He passionately loves the Lord and enjoys serving Him enthusiastically. After many years with Youth For Christ then church planting in Edmonton, Barry headed into the construction industry. He and his family have attended Heartland since the very first service at Festival Place. In 2006, he was welcomed onto the Heartland Staff and truly enjoys being a part of the work God is doing here. Barry has been married to his wife Lori-Anne since 1993 and they have five children. Barry enjoys construction projects, playing games, and sports of most kinds - although his favorite, by far, is football.
Pastor of Men & Small Groups
Greg originally comes from Grande Prairie, and arrived at Heartland in early 2016, following 20 years of various pastoral roles in 4 other Alliance churches. One of his greatest passions is to see people step out in faith and discover the potential God has created in them, so working with men and coaching small group leaders provide great opportunities for him to do what he loves! Greg also really enjoys music, fishing, sports and games of all kinds, and is blessed to do life together with his kids Jon & Rachel and his best friend Debra (married since 1991). But most of all, Greg is constantly overwhelmed with the depth of God's grace to him, and wants to live fully surrendered and completely devoted to Jesus.
